TV SHOW RECCOMENDATIONS

Hey,

When I started this blog, two weeks ago, I wanted to write about things that make me happy or I enjoy doing. Reading books is one of those things but it’s not the only thing. Watching TV shows has recently become a passion of mine and I wanted to share some of my favourite TV shows with you.

Once Upon a Time
Genre: Fantasy/Drama
Network: American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
Number of Seasons: 4
Original release: October 23, 2011 – present
Synopsis:
“‘Once Upon a Time’ tells the story of a new world, one in which fairy-tale legends and modern life collide. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is comfortable in her life as a bail bonds collector when Henry — the child she gave up a decade earlier — suddenly shows up. He is convinced that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who sent her away before the Evil Queen could cast a spell, freezing the fairytale world in time and bringing them to present-day Storybrooke, Maine. After taking Henry home, Emma decides to stay in the town to keep an eye on him, and she discovers he may not be wrong after all.”

I absolutely love this show, it’s so amazing and different from anything I’ve ever watched before. I seriously love this show and I wish I knew more people who watch this show so I could get more fangirling opportunities.

I rate this show a 5/5 stars

Stitchers
Genre: Crime Drama/Science Fiction
Network: American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
Number of Seasons: 1
Number of Episodes: 10
Original release: June 2, 2015 – present
Synopsis:
“Stitchers follows Kirsten, who has been recruited into a government agency to be ‘stitched’ into the memories of people recently deceased to investigate murders and mysteries that otherwise would have gone unsolved. Cameron, a brilliant neuroscientist, assists Kirsten in the secret program headed by Maggie, a skilled covert operator. The program also includes Linus, a bioelectrical engineer and communications technician. Camille, Kirsten’s roommate and a computer science grad student, is also recruited to assist Kirsten as a ‘stitcher’.”

I came across this show via tumblr, well my cousin did. There are 10 episodes and I’m already in love with this show. It has been said that this show is similar to iZombie, it is true but not true. Both protagonists go into the minds of the dead but the actual substance of the two shows are completely different. This show has a different vibe, I guess, to it. It’s hard to explain but if you watch it you’d understand.

I rate this show a 5/5 stars

Pretty Little Liars
Genre: Teen Drama/Mystery
Network: American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
Number of Seasons: 6
Number of Episodes: 130
Original release: June 8, 2010 – present
Synopsis:
“Set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, the series follows the lives of four girls, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin, Emily Fields, and Spencer Hastings, whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their leader, Alison DiLaurentis. One year later, the estranged friends are reunited as they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure named ‘A’ who threatens to expose their deepest secrets, including ones they thought only Alison knew. At first, they think it’s Alison herself, but after her body is found, the girls realize that someone else is planning on ruining their lives.”

Pretty Little Liars is one of those shows everyone watches, and everyone knows about. I picked it up around season four because my cousin is in love with it. At first I found this show intriguing but after a while it started to get a bit boring, I did stop halfway through season five because I got sick of the repetitive story line. But my cousin got me back into it.

I rate this show a 3.5/5 stars

iZombie
Genre: Comedy-Drama/Crime
Network: The CW
Number of Seasons: 1
Number of Episodes: 13
Original release: March 17, 2015 – Present
Synopsis:
“Seattle medical resident Olivia ‘Liv’ Moore is turned into a zombie while attending a boat party. To cope with her new appetite for brains, Liv takes a job at the King County morgue and shares her secret with her boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti. In order for Liv to survive, Ravi encourages her to eat the brains of murder victims who are delivered to the morgue. Whenever she eats a victim’s brain, Liv inherits some of their personality traits temporarily. She also experiences flashbacks which often give her clues as to the nature of the murder. Liv uses this new ability to help the Seattle Police Department solve crimes, passing herself off as a psychic consultant.”

I saw this show advertised on TV earlier this year but didn’t watch it for some reason. About two to three weeks ago I was bored and decided to pick up this show for fun. This show was so much more than I expected. I’ve fallen in love with every character, I’ve cried while watching this show so many times.

I rate this show 5/5 stars

The 100
Genre: Action Drama/Adventure Drama/Dystopian Drama/Post-Apocalyptic Drama
Science fiction drama
Network: The CW
Number of Seasons: 2
Number of Episodes: 29
Original release: March 19, 2014 – Present
Synopsis:
“The series is set 97 years after a devastating nuclear war wiped out almost all life on Earth. The only known survivors are the residents of twelve space stations in Earth’s orbit prior to the war. The space stations banded together to form a single massive station named ‘The Ark’, where about 2,400 people live under the leadership of Chancellor Jaha. Resources are scarce and all crimes, no matter their nature or severity, are punishable by ejection into space (floating) unless the perpetrator is under 18 years of age. After the Ark’s life-support systems are found to be critically failing, 100 juvenile prisoners are declared ‘expendable’ and sent to the surface—nearby former Washington, D.C.—in a last ditch attempt to determine if Earth is habitable again in a program called ‘The 100’, for which the show is named. The teens arrive on a seemingly pristine planet they have only seen from space. They attempt to find refuge and supplies at an old military installation, Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Unfortunately, they landed at some distance from the intended target and soon face other problems. Confronting both the wonders and the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. They soon discover that not all humanity was wiped out—some people on Earth, called Grounders, survived the war, and there are more dangers lurking—Reapers (Grounders who have become cannibals) and Mountain Men (who live in Mount Weather, the original destination of the 100).”

Again I picked up this show because of tumblr. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about The 100 on tumblr, youtube, twitter etcetera, and felt the urge to watch it. Honestly that was one of the best decisions I’ve made when it comes to reading/listening/watching something that’s hyped. I’ve cried, real tears, a lot while watching this show. I absolutely love this show and it’s crazy how much I talk about this show.

I rate this show a 5/5 stars.

Humans
Genre: Science Fiction
Network: AMC Networks
Number of Seasons: 1
Number of Episodes: 8
Original release: June 14, 2015 – Present

Synopsis:

“In a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant that’s so similar to a real human it’s transforming the way we live.”

I picked up this show because I saw it advertised on television and I asked my mum to record it for me. I watch it with my mum and brother and honestly they must love it as much as I do. The plot line is so interesting and captivating. I find the concept of Synths so intriguing.

I rate this show a 5/5 stars.

The Flash

Genre: Superhero Fiction
Network: The CW
Number of Seasons: 1
Number of Episodes: 23
Original release: October 7, 2014
Synopsis:
“After witnessing his mother’s supernatural murder and his father’s wrongful conviction for the crime, Barry Allen is taken in by Detective Joe West and his family. Allen becomes a brilliant but socially awkward crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. His obsession with his tragic past causes him to become an outcast among his peers; he investigates cold cases, paranormal occurrences, and cutting-edge scientific advancements that may shed light on his mother’s murder. No one believes his description of the crime—that a ball of lightning with the face of a man invaded their home that night—and Allen is fiercely driven to vindicate himself and to clear his father’s name. Fourteen years after his mother’s death, an advanced particle accelerator malfunctions during its public unveiling, bathing the city center with a previously unknown form of radiation and creating a severe thunderstorm. Allen is struck by lightning from the storm and doused with chemicals in his lab. Awakening after a nine-month coma, he discovers he has the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Dr. Harrison Wells, the disgraced designer of the failed particle accelerator, describes Barry’s special nature as ‘metahuman’; Allen soon discovers that he is not the only one who was changed by the radiation. Allen vows to use his gifts to protect Central City from the escalating violence of metahuman criminals. He is aided by a few close friends and associates who guard his secrets.”

I watched this show because my brother was. I started a episode two and found it so interesting. I’m not a huge fan of superhero movies, I like a few but I’m picky. This show was something that stood out from the other superhero shows like Arrow and Gotham, personally those two shows didn’t interest me. I’m not to sure why I like this show, but I do.

I rate this show a 4.5/5 stars

Red Band Society

Genre: Teen Drama/Medical Drama
Network: FOX
Number of Seasons: 1
Number of Episodes: 13
Original release: September 17, 2014 – February 7, 2015
Synopsis:

“A group of teens in the pediatric ward of Los Angeles’ Ocean Park Hospital find comfort in one another. Mexican-born Jordi, 16, crossed the border for treatment. His roommate, Leo, at the hospital for over a year, is starting to lose his way. Cystic fibrosis prompts Leo’s best friend, Dash, to live each day as though it’s his last. Emma, Leo’s off-and-on girlfriend, has an eating disorder. Kara is a cheerleader with a heart problem, and her roommate, Charlie, is 12 and in a coma. Dr. Jack McAndrew and Nurses Jackson and Dobler make up their medical team.

This show is honestly so different to what I expected. I picked up this show because Taylor Swift tweeted about it. I originally thought this show was going to more of a comedy show than a emotional shows, it was both comedic and emotional but it had a lot more emotion in the show than I was expecting. The show honestly made me so happy and so sad all at once. All of the characters taught me a lesson on how I treat people or self belief, just many life lessons. I was so upset when this show got cancelled and I remember crying while watching the last two episodes. This show is honestly one of the best shows I’ve watched, I recommend it to everyone no matter what your preferred genre is.

I rate this show a 5/5 stars
